    Photography tips

What to expect from the tool

The tool removes the background by color, so it works best when the jewelry sits on a plain, evenly lit surface. Very shiny pieces, transparent stones and thin chains can be difficult, and fine details may need touching up. Click the background in the original photo to pick its color, adjust Tolerance and Edge trim, then check the preview closely.

    Questions

Why do thin chains look uneven?

Thin details are only a few pixels wide, so the edge can look rough. A higher resolution photo and softer light help.

Should I use a grey or a white surface?

A plain white or light grey surface works well. Avoid a surface so close in color to the jewelry that the edge is lost.

    Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs on your device, and the tool does not download any extra files to process your photo.

Does it work with any background?

It works best when the product sits on a plain or softly shaded background. Busy backgrounds, like patterned fabric or wood grain, are hard. If some background is left, raise the tolerance or click it in the original photo to pick its color.

    Will Amazon accept the photo?

The tool makes the background pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) and sizes the product to fill the frame, which are the main rules for Amazon's main image. Acceptance still depends on your photo and category, so check Amazon's current guidelines.

What size should I choose for Etsy?

Etsy's recommendations vary between its help pages. A 4:3 photo and a square photo are both common, so choose the shape you use across your listings and keep it the same for every photo.
